Project for Prevention of abuse of alcohol amongst young people:

"Getting Straight Through"

Description:
The project is centered on the presentation of mime performances to school-age youngsters in educational and other youth establishments capable of staging social functions.

A series of mime sketches, six in all, are used as a basis to explore a number of facts about the effects of alcohol consumption with the aim of developing a critical attitude in the audience towards the personal, family, work and social problems generated by an alcohol culture.

Attendance at the mime event can be used as the basis for student participation in educational activities organized around each presentation.

Project Objectives:
• Create an awareness of the use of mime to promote social and cultural messages.
• Facilitate audience reflection about the effects of consumption of dangerous substances on health and well-being.
• Stimulate the audience’s capacity to understand the implications of excessive alcohol consumption.
• Opening up an active communication channel in order to generate debates about themes suggested by the work.
The project also offers healthy alternatives by opening a window on the world of Mime and Theatre.

Target Group

“Getting Straight Through” targets youngsters in the 12-18 year age group attending secondary school education.

En 2007 a total of 8797 students participated in 84 representations of "Getting Straight Through"

Valuation

The show gets through to the adolescents, it impresses them and stimulates both a later debate and work in the class.

Since the original experimental pilot carried out during the course 2002 the programme Getting Straight Through has welcomed all suggestions received, many of which have greatly contributed to the development of the programme.
The result is a very impressive and positive as form of opening a debate with 14-18 year old youngsters on the subject of abuse of alcohol and the risks involved.

Teachers have really found the guide to raise awareness more effectively than many hours of lecture or other more technical resources.

In the surveys carried out the students have highlighted: the interpretation of the artist as well as the capacity of the show to raise awareness about the risks associated with consumption.
